The end of season celebrations are in full swing, and not only for crew. All contenders in the yachting industry are celebrating the end of another Mediterranean season. The end of the season is quite fittingly marked by one of the biggest events on the yachting calendar: The prestigious Monaco Yacht Show (MYS).
If you're new to yachting you may have heard of boat shows and be wondering what goes on. Well the team at CRC were fortunate enough to make an appearance at the MYS, and today I am going to tell you all about it.
What is the Monaco Yacht Show ?
The Monaco Yacht Show, at heart, is an opportunity for yacht brokers to display the yachts they have available for sale or for charter. This makes it quite the spectacle as there are an array of brand new, absolutely drop dead gorgeous yachts including some of the most sought after charter yachts on the market. At this year's MYS there were over 100 super yachts on display, of which over 40 were brand new.
Monaco itself is one of the most prestigious destinations on the planet. Monaco has the most billionaires per square kilometre and is frequented by royalty and celebrities from all over the world. It truly is a special place.
Who was there?
Having these prestigious yachts on display draws the attention of the entire yachting community, ranging from crew, to suppliers, to shipyards, all the way up to the people who buy and charter these yachts.
At the 2024 MYS there were over 500 exhibitors displaying the latest innovations within the yachting industry: from design, to luxury products, and toys.
When I say toys, I don't mean legos - I'm talking about personal submarines, E-foils (electric surf board with a foiling wing), Inflatable platforms, Jet Skis, Seabobs and many more! Personally this is my favourite part of any boat show. I have been fortunate enough to use some of these toys onboard yachts I've worked on (not for leisure, just to make sure they are running as they should of course).
The MYS is not just a flashy spectacle of yachts, toys and wealth. There are a lot of really positive initiatives involved too. The yachting industry has been making leaps and bounds in the area of environmental protection and sustainability.
The MYS 2024 included The Sustainability Hub showcasing the latest eco-friendly technologies within the industry, which features organisations like The Water Revolution Foundation Partnership, which is an organisation aimed at accelerating sustainability in yachting.
What did Compass Rose Crew get up to ?
The Compass Rose Crew (CRC) team took full advantage of the event to connect with various professionals across the industry. We spent time networking with training schools, industry specialists and affiliated partners while building on our professional relationships. Meeting with both current and potential clients was a key focus, allowing us to engage directly with Captains and crew, fostering new opportunities while reinforcing existing ones.
Beyond the business side, we also made a point of familiarising ourselves with the latest trends in the industry. One highlight was viewing a vessel that we had followed throughout it's build process; seeing it completed and in all its glory was truly impressive.
Attending MYS wasn’t just about work, though - it was a celebration for our team. Having achieved another successful year in business, it was a proud moment for us to attend the event together where we enjoyed a well-deserved day out of the office.
Conclusion
All in all the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, as always, was an incredible event. It was an opportunity for the industry to get together and move forward together. It provided an excellent platform for networking within the industry on the side of business and crew relations and in addition it was an opportunity to explore the latest in yachting technology, with a key aspect being green technology and sustainable solutions.
By keeping up to date with the industry trends, maintaining relationships and forging new ones, we at Compass Rose Crew are able to better serve our clients.
